Fake Follower Checker for Instagram & TikTok (Free, Math Shown)

No username upload, no black-box score: type in your numbers and see how your engagement compares to your size.

Quick answer

Add up likes, comments and shares on your last 10 posts, divide by posts, then by followers, times 100. That is your engagement rate. On TikTok, a 1K-10K account below 4.92% (median 7.84%) is under average, which can signal dormant or fake followers. The calculator below does it in your browser.

Most "fake follower checkers" want your username, run a black box and hand you a score you can't audit. The strongest signal they use is one you can compute yourself in a minute: how many followers actually react to your posts. Below is a calculator that does exactly that, in your browser, with the formula on the page.

The formula

Pull your last 10 to 12 posts (or videos) and add up their reactions.

Favikon's TikTok guide uses the same ER definition (likes + comments + shares, divided by followers). Neal Schaffer's Instagram method averages likes and comments over the last 12 posts, divides by total followers and multiplies by 100. Instagram shares aren't public, so leave that field at 0 there.

What the benchmarks say

Favikon's 2026 TikTok guide cites SociaVault Labs data (150,000 accounts). Smaller accounts engage more, so compare yourself to your own tier:

TikTok tierFollowersMedian ERBelow average
Nano1K-10K7.84%under 4.92%
Micro10K-50K5.21%under 3.28%
Mid50K-100K3.89%under 2.47%
Macro100K-500K2.73%under 1.71%
Mega500K+1.84%under 1.12%

For Instagram, Neal Schaffer's guide puts typical engagement at 1.7% to about 8%. Different sources draw different lines, so treat any single cut-off as a guide.

Worked example

An 8,000-follower TikTok account, 10 videos, 3,200 likes, 140 comments, 60 shares. Total 3,400, so 340 per video. ER = 340 ÷ 8,000 × 100 = 4.25%. The nano median is 7.84%, so that account sits at 54% of the median and under the 4.92% line. Worth a closer look, but not a verdict.

A 7-step manual check

The ratio is step one. These are the other signals the tools and guides rely on:

  1. Compute your ER with the calculator.
  2. Compare views to followers. Favikon lists a large follower count with minimal views as a red flag.
  3. Look for growth spikes with no viral post behind them; real growth is a gentle upward curve.
  4. Read the comments. Generic one-word comments ("cool", "great") and comments arriving in even batches are warning signs.
  5. Scan 20 followers: no photo, fewer than 6 posts, bot-style usernames, or following far more accounts than they have followers.
  6. Check follower geography against your content. Mismatched regions stand out.
  7. Repeat monthly with the same post count so the numbers stay comparable. Our guide to tracking Instagram follower growth shows how to log them.

What the paid checkers add

HypeAuditor's free Instagram checker returns an Audience Quality Score (1-100), follower count and engagement rate, and says it analyses over 40 factors. ViralMango's TikTok checker lists four signals: engagement-to-follower ratio, quality audience percentage, growth patterns and comment authenticity; its paid plans start at $47/month, as listed on its page on 26 October 2026. Their models are proprietary, so you can't see how a score is built. Engagement ratio is the one signal you can reproduce yourself, which is why the calculator above exists.

Ratio looks off? What to do

If your ER lands well under your tier, don't panic and don't guess a "fake percentage". Two causes are common: dormant or low-quality followers dragging the base up, or posts that simply aren't earning reactions. Start with content: read how the Instagram algorithm ranks posts or how the For You Page works, since engagement is what both systems measure.

If your posts look thin next to your follower count and you'd like to rebalance the optics, some people add likes to their strongest recent posts. SocFlare (socflare.com) lists Instagram likes from $0.99 for 100 and $3.99 for 1,000, ordered with just a public post link (no password), and its refill for likes has no time limit. It's a kickstart for social proof, not a fix for an audience that never reacted. Note that TikTok's community guidelines say it will remove fake likes, followers or other inflated signals when detected.

Want a nudge on a post that deserves more?

Use the calculator first. If the content is solid and the likes are lagging, a small pack on one post is a low-cost way to give it momentum. SocFlare shows prices before checkout and accepts card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal.

Limits of this tool

A ratio can't see who your followers are. Giveaway audiences, old viral spikes and niche accounts with quiet followers all lower ER without any purchase. Use it as a screening step, then run the manual checks. Before buying anything, our checklist on buying Instagram followers safely covers what to demand from a seller.

Common questions

Can a fake follower checker be 100% accurate?

No. Checkers infer from signals like engagement ratio, growth spikes and comment quality; none can see intent. A low ratio can also come from weak content or a dormant audience, so treat the result as a screening step.

How do I calculate engagement rate?

Total likes, comments and (on TikTok) shares across recent posts, divided by the number of posts, divided by followers, times 100. Use the last 10 to 12 posts.

What is a normal engagement rate on TikTok?

Favikon's 2026 guide, citing SociaVault Labs, gives medians from 7.84% for 1K-10K accounts down to 1.84% for 500K+. Compare yourself to your own tier.

What is a normal engagement rate on Instagram?

Neal Schaffer's guide puts it between about 1.7% for very large accounts and around 8% for smaller ones. Benchmarks vary by source and niche.

Does this tool need my username or password?

No. You type numbers you read from your own analytics or profile, and the calculation runs in your browser with nothing sent or stored.

What other signs point to fake followers?

Spikes in followers without a viral post, large followings with minimal views, generic one-word comments, and followers with no photo or fewer than 6 posts. Our follower tracking guide helps you spot spikes.

Why is my TikTok engagement rate higher than my Instagram one?

TikTok engagement rates run higher in published benchmarks, with nano accounts around 7.84% median. Compare each platform only against its own tier.
